The REOFFENDERS

Punk Rock: Classic and Modern

The REOFFENDERS are on an indefinite break. Never say never, but we currently have no plans to play. However, we had joy and we had fun... and we blogged about it. Enjoy reading and reliving some good times.

Gig on Saturday

The REOFFENDERS hit The Lime Tree at Paignton on Saturday night. This will be our first visit to sunny Paignton but the first of many this summer, having been booked to play the Lime Tree four times between now and August, and with the BMAD gig coming up at the end of next month.

Radar will be stepping in for Brucie while he's away. He's done a fantastic job learning the set in just three practices. Radar also sings so that's another layer of backing vocals for us. Mr Indesit has also started chipping in on a couple of songs so we may very well lift the roof off!

Hotel Yorba rocked at practice last night!!!

Radar Dyson

As Radar is standing in as drummer on two upcoming gigs while Brucie is away, we thought it only proper to give him a fitting "white goods" name.

It took several conversations and a couple of flicks through the Argos catalogue but we finally found it - Radar Dyson. We don't come up with these daft names overnight, you know!

I'll be adding his pic and biog to the site soon

No Jimmy, but The Others come to the rescue...

Off we went to Bristol to luxuriate in the awesome music of Jimmy Eat World at the Academy... but no. Halfway through an afternoon's shopping the news breaks that the gig is postponed due to illness... bugger...

Returning to dear old Exeter, Morphy-Richards and I decide to check out some local hostelries and see what bands are playing. After terrible beer and worse music, we stumbled into the Longbrooke. Spirits rose immediately when we find The Others playing a pretty fair rendition of Boulevard of Broken Dreams, following up with Basket Case. Excellent.

The Others then proceeded to play a set of excellent "pub rock" tunes, but with the commitment and edge so lacking from many of their counterparts.

Well done lads, we'll be checking you out again. They've not got a website, but their gigs pop up on http://www.southwestgigguide.co.uk so pop down and see 'em.

[spunge]

Think it's time young Hoover made a few comments on this bloggy thing.

Being a sad git with no real life to speak of, i reckon i'll just be enthusing about all the fab gigs i'm going to be going to, when i'm not doing the REOFFENDERS.

Last outing was Tuesday night, and i went down the Cavern, Exeter to see those top Ska/Punksters [spunge]. Now if you've not seen this lot, then i can't recommend them enough. This is about the third or fourth time i've had the pleasure of a sweaty outing in the company of the [spunge] massive. On this occasion the sweat was indeed dripping off the ceiling in the Cavern... yummy

Got to http://www.spunge.co.uk to check out whats happening. If you had to buy just one album, then I'd say "The Story So Far" is my fave.

...and their covers album "That Should Cover It" is crying out for ripping off by the REOFFENDERS... classics like Centrefold and Down Under done in a skarry/punky stylie.. most excellent...

John can't stop dreaming of a UK Tour

John went to see Spunge at the Cavern in Exeter the other night and has been drooling over their tour dates. They're hard working boys, doing a gig every night for 3 weeks with only 1 night off! Mr Hoover keeps dreaming about us quitting our day jobs, sticking us all on a bus and doing a UK or European tour.

Bless

Blimey Trousers!

Radar phoned yesterday with 3 more dates at the Lime Tree in Paignton. Terry didn't want to wait until after the BMAD Gig so has booked us for 2nd April, as well as dates in May, June and July!

Girls Aloud Rock!

At the last practice session, Paul sheepishly confessed that he'd been playing Girls Aloud's "Love Machine" at home. Expecting a barrage of abuse, he was stunned to find Beth (of all people!) getting very excited at the prospect of being able to play it in The REOFFENDERS. Too many cheesy nightclubs to blame, I reckon!

I just downloaded it from iTunes thinking, with Paul's grungey guitar, it might just work. I love it! I've been jumping round the living room, singing into my hairbrush and scaring the bejesus out of my cats.

Our collective punk integrity is in tatters!

Look Ma! I'm on Telly!

Kate asked me to email her a large version of the logo. She's going to be on TV (well sort of, she's going to be in the audience when some filming is done at her local) and plans to wear a T-shirt with The REOFFENDERS emblazoned on the front.

We're gonna be famous!

More Songs, More Fish!

New songs worked on this week were:
  • Swords of a thousand men - Tenpole Tudor

  • The Middle - Jimmy Eat World

  • Psychotherapy - The Ramones

Paul spent 3 hours last week learning the riff for The Middle and is pretty chuffed with it, understandably. He's added another 100 fish a day to his filleting total since he got it worked out!

Kate (honorary groupie) is gonna be past herself at the next gig if we play Jimmy.

Google

The REOFFENDERS are back at the top of a Google search again, with the Derby clan at reoffenders.com being pushed down to accomodate.

Excellent! (accompanied by me playing air guitar in a Bill and Ted like manner!)

Radar's off to a Flying Start

Radar phoned last night to say he's got us a spot at Dartmouth festival in May and at a pub in Paignton in June. At the time of the call, he was in the pub talking to a couple of other people too! Blimey, that man's on fire!!!

Excitingly we now have enough gigs to warrant a gigs page on the website :-)

Regrettably we may not have Brucie for the Dartmouth gig on account of him swanning off on holiday AGAIN! I've gotta get a job where he works!

The Management

The REOFFENDERS are pleased to announce Radar as our manager. He's been as keen as mustard (or is that marmite?) to get us gigs, and we're glad to have him as the 6th member of the band.
