The REOFFENDERS

Punk Rock: Classic and Modern

The REOFFENDERS are on an indefinite break. Never say never, but we currently have no plans to play. However, we had joy and we had fun... and we blogged about it. Enjoy reading and reliving some good times.

Horror as John Pokes Nose of Punk Fan

John inadvertently pokes the nose of a punk fan!We had a great night at the Bowling Green on Wednesday. Before we even started, we were asked "Do you do any League?" Quick thinking Mr Hoover realised that this was a request for the Anti Nowhere League and a quick addition to the encore was mentally noted.

Sadly we were without Lou, official groupy and dance trainer so we had to manage Stop on our own, but it was heartening to see the audience joining in and helping us out.

Today we're playing Wattfest - a private party near Cullumpton. 6 bands, beer, BBQ, beer, moto-football, beer and falling face down in your tent afterwards. It will be good. We're the last band on (approx 1am!) so although we'll be abit squiffy, I think the audience will be bladdered!

Sadly it will also be Bethy Bosch's last gig as she's moving to Leeds for work. She's one of the founder members of The REOFFENDERS, from the days when we were a 6 piece band called Them Pesky Kids and we took more than a year to learn 9 songs! I think we're all a lot better since those shaky days.

I'll now be the only girl in the band. boo hoo.. sob sniff...

My first blog......hurrah

What up!... just had to add a thank you to Rob from S.O.B for the use of his amp last night. The tone that bad boy created had me buzzing my socks off!!!!. Any donations to the "get Indesit a Peavey JSX head unit fund" will be gratefully received!!!!....just £1498 left to raise.

On a serious note, last night was great fun and S.O.B are a cracking band.... well worth checking out. A great mix of original material and covers and lovely people with nice things to play with to boot.

Indesit over and out.

3 Fat Fish with S.O.B.

The REOFFENDERS turned up at the 3FF and weren't all that ready to rock. Indesit had a crap day at work, Hoover felt like pants, Bosch and Morph were less than perky... and Le Creuset was steaming down the M4/M5 from Swindon, not due in till 8:30 if we were lucky... and there was very few people in the place too...

Then we met the lads from SOB and things began to look up. Wot a nice bunch o' blokes! With no Brucie we soundchecked Basket Case with their drummer (cos they play that one too) and the PA, the sound, and SOB's funky lights raised the spirits.

Brucie turned up precisely at 8:30 and I went downstairs to get "suited up". Suddenly it was "game on" and we stumbled into the limelight as Brucie thrashed out the opening of New Rose. It was time to Rock and Roll.

...and the rest, they say, is history. We played to the growing audience and the overall lack of punters just meant I had a much bigger stage (about half the pub) to run about in and act like a tosser. And the SOB boys really got where we were at and proved a most appreciative audience.

So that was that then. The power of rock and roll triumphed and we had a ball.

But that wasn't that.

Up came SOB to deliver a fitting response to our travesty of rock with a fantastic show of rock covers and really good original stuff. Hard to pick out any stars in the band, they're all great musicians and clearly love every moment while they're up there. Highlight for me as the Killers cover... most excellent!

SOB are another band we'll be checking out locally. I suggest you all do too.

ps we're playing the Bowling Green next week. Surely you'll have all finished Harry Potter by then and be up for going out!

and a bit from me about Friday

Thanks to Dave who joined us on didgereedoo (is that how you spell that?) in the middle of Ever Fallen in Love which is something new for the punk world.

I have to confess to having fibbed a bit after the gig as I sold CDs. No, I wasn't really going to fail to pay the rent if people didn't buy the CD and no, I wasn't going to be forced to scrounge out of bins to feed myself. I also did lots of fluttering of eyelashes and pretend crying. Shameful really but if you can't play on being a girl, well... sod it!

Naked Ape did a great set. Hightlights: Screamager (Therapy), No-one Knows (Queens of the Stone Age), Wuthering Heights (China Drum), Eleanor Rigby (Godhead) and of course, Sweet Transvestite. They are a great band with a good mix of covers and originals - if you haven't seen them already, do it!

So, next stop for us.... 3 Fat Fish on 19th July.

I have a mission to go into town next week and take a photo of our name postered to a lamp post. It's a sad little dream but when someone else fly posters you, you know you've made it big :-)

REOFFENDERS "win" Battle of the Bands

...well almost...

We were actually joint winners, so we got half the money, so that's fab!

Both us and Naked Ape did great sets on the night. Two of the three judges voted Reoffenders and Naked Ape, leaving the landlord to make the casting vote. And he chose to sit on the fence and split the prize between us.

We're already looking forward to going back to The Strand, great pub, great people.

Hoover x

ps. Next gig is Tuesday 19th July at The 3 Fat Fish.. lets see you all there then!
