The REOFFENDERS were booked on the Red Eye flight from Exeter to Jersey on Friday so we thought the only sensible thing to do was to go to the pub the night before!
Paul and Bully were staying with John and I on Thursday night so it was either the pub or a marathon dance mat competition on the Wii. You've met Bully haven't you? You're imagining his face when the dance mat was suggested? Yep, so we went to the pub!
Friday
My alarm went off at 4.50am the next morning and I delivered coffee and tea to the boys to help pull them out of their comatose state. The flight left on time and after a short sit on the runway in Guernsey, we hopped over to Jersey to be met by hailstones! yikes!
We called in at Chambers before going to the hotel to say hello and check out the lay of the land. They have a big screen at the far end of the venue which, when lifted up reveals a stage. Cool.
We wandered to our hotel which was about 10 minutes away - we're back in girls and boys rooms again but not adjoining as they were in Guernsey. Indesit moaned that he had the middle bed again and was going to be kept awake by the snoring! LOL!
After a bit of a mooch around the shops we went back to Chambers for lunch before exploring. Bully went in search of record shops whilst the rest of us had a walk along the beach. The sun had come out for a bit so we made the most of it before heading back to Chambers for soundcheck and then a beer at the real ale pub, The Lamplighter. Cocker Hoop from Jennings was bloody lovely!
Before long, it was time to go back to Chambers for the gig. There's a room at the back where you can get changed and chill in a "green room" stylee. The place was packed, lots of people out for the night after a day at work. As the disco finished, some drifted away and others arrived in anticipation of live music. They seemed a cheese loving audience as we rocked out some of our sillier punk tunes.
Bully unfortunately was plagued by gremlins, starting with breaking a string before his amp stopped working and then his mic lead.
Saturday
Saturday in Jersey was pretty rubbish weather so as a result, we didn't really see any sights - other than the real ale pub again. Our gigs were starting late enough that an afternoon tipple wasn't going to impair anyone's performance. Result!
We decided to treat ourselves and go out for a restaurant meal together, and discovered the worst restaurant in the world. Don't EVER go to San Marco's Italian! The pizzas were truly crap, very small and tasteless but my heart went out to Katie when her £6 cheese salad arrived consisting of grated cheddar, shredded iceberg lettuce and a few bits of value tomatoes! What a rip off! Bully refused to pay for his but as showtime was fast approaching, the rest of us just grumpily ate ours knowing that it was our last opportunity to eat before the gig.
The gig was another good one with a lot of familiar faces from the night before. We'd made the setlists almost entirely different so that anyone coming back for a second helping would get a different show. Lots of favourable comments were reaching us from the management so it sounds like it all went well and we'll be back again next year.
Sunday
Weather was very wet but we had to vacate the hotel at 10am and so out into the rain we went. After dropping off our cases at Chambers, we walked around for ages looking for someone to have lunch, eventually finding a chain italian restaurant. Absolutely lovely and so much better than the night before.
The flight home was delayed a bit and again routed through Guernsey so it felt like a long journey home. We literally flew into the sunset which was very pretty.
I'd like to say a big thanks to Will and all his staff at Chambers for making us so welcome. We look forward to coming back again soon.
